August 2008 - Vista Printing Problems
We have had several reports of printing problems on Windows Vista with new HP printers. The symptoms are that other programs will print, but SMP either will not print at all, or just the testings section does not print.
As of this time we have not yet been able to determine if the problem is due to bugs Microsoft introduced with Vista, or whether the problem is related to the new HP printer drivers.
If you are experiencing printing problems, please send us an email and let us know whether you are running Windows XP or Vista, and the brand and model of your printer (ie: HP Officejet Pro L7590). We will continue to work the problem and let you know when we determine a solution.
In the meantime there are a few things you can try to work around this problem and maybe even help us figure out a solution. They are:
- Go to your printer manufacturer's website and download any updated drivers, firmware patches, etc. that may be available. (HP printer driver download site)
- If printing was working before you can try hooking up your old printer to see if that still works.
- Download PrimoPDF which is a free PDF printer driver. After you install it, you can try printing to the PrimoPDF printer. This will create a PDF of your documents which you can then print on your real printer.
